Dad's Urban Dictionary: The 2026 Edition

teen girls laughing urban dictionary aussie dadding 2026

Ever found yourself nodding along while your kid talks, quietly hoping context will save you? No? Just us?

Welcome to 2026, where the lingo has evolved, the bar for being "cooked" is surprisingly low, and a "beige flag" is apparently a thing now.

We've gone through the full list so you don't have to. Here's your cheat sheet - no cap.

The ones worth knowing first:

Ate / Ate that up - They absolutely nailed it. Crushed it. "She ate that presentation up." Use this on your kid when they do something well. You're welcome.

Canon event - A painful experience they believe they had to go through to grow up. Useful context when they're being dramatic about a breakup.

Crashing out - Losing the plot emotionally over something minor. You'll recognise this one immediately.

Delulu - Short for delusional, said with affection. "You think she's texting back? Bit delulu."

Beige flag - Not a red flag, not a green flag. Just... odd. "He names his plants. Beige flag." Harmless but noted.

BFFR - "Be for real." Used when someone's talking rubbish. You'll want this one.

Down bad - Embarrassingly invested in someone. "He liked her post from 2018. Down bad." We've all been there.

Not that deep - You're overthinking it. They will use this on you. Often correctly.

Touch grass - Get off your phone and go outside. Ironic given who's usually saying it.

The full list - and there are a lot of them - is free to download. Print it. Put it on the fridge. Pretend you already knew half of them.
